Kwame Raoul
Democrat for Attorney General
“As Attorney General, my job is to be the people's lawyer, standing up for the rights, safety, and freedoms of every Illinois resident.”
Kwame Raoul has served as the 42nd Attorney General of Illinois since 2019. Born in Chicago to Haitian immigrant parents, he earned his undergraduate degree from DePaul University and his law degree from Chicago-Kent College of Law, beginning his legal career as a Cook County prosecutor.
Raoul served in the Illinois State Senate from 2004 to 2019, appointed to the seat previously held by Barack Obama. There he became a leading voice on criminal justice reform, civil rights, early childhood education, and domestic violence prevention, helping shape major state legislation.
As Attorney General, Raoul has focused on consumer protection, public safety, reproductive freedom, environmental enforcement, and defending Illinois residents in court against federal overreach. A longtime Chicagoan, he has positioned the office as a frontline defender of civil rights and the rule of law for people across the state.
