DeKalb County Democrats
Who We Are

We are DeKalb County Democrats.

Your neighbors, coworkers, friends, and family — organizing in all 19 townships for a fair shot for everyone.

Our Story

Neighbors, first and always.

We are your neighbors, your coworkers, your friends and your family. We share one commitment: fairness, equality, and opportunity for all.

We live in every one of DeKalb County's 19 townships — from the NIU campus to the farthest farm road. And we believe local elections, decided by a handful of votes, are where democracy is truly won or lost. So we show up: at the doors, on the phones, at the parade, and at the polls.

How the Party Works

The grassroots backbone of your community.

Every county in Illinois has a Democratic Party organization — often called the County Democratic Central Committee — and it is the grassroots backbone of the Democratic Party where you live. It's made up of precinct committeepersons elected by Democratic voters in each precinct, who together elect a county chair and officers, recruit and slate candidates, register voters and turn them out, and fill vacancies on the ballot.

DeKalb County sits where a lively university community meets miles of productive farmland — Sycamore the county seat, DeKalb and NIU the hub, and nineteen townships from Genoa to Shabbona giving it a blend of college-town energy and rural roots. It's a genuinely competitive place.

What We Stand For

Our Platform

The issues we fight for in DeKalb County and beyond.

Jobs & a Living Wage

Everyone who works hard in DeKalb County should be able to support a family here. We support good-paying jobs, the right to organize and bargain collectively, and a living wage that keeps up with the real cost of housing, groceries, and child care.

Quality Public Education

Strong public schools are the backbone of every community in our county. We support fully funding public education, respecting and fairly paying teachers and school staff, and keeping Northern Illinois University a thriving engine of opportunity for the whole region.

Affordable Health Care

No one in DeKalb County should have to choose between seeing a doctor and paying the bills. We support affordable, accessible health care for every family — including mental health services, reproductive health care, and lower prescription drug costs.

A Healthy Environment

Clean air, clean water, and healthy soil are the foundation of life in DeKalb County. We support protecting our natural resources, investing in clean energy and the jobs that come with it, and leaving our children a county in better shape than we found it.

Civil Rights & Equal Justice

Every person in DeKalb County deserves to be treated with dignity and to be equal under the law — regardless of race, religion, gender, disability, who they love, or where they were born. We stand against discrimination in all its forms.

Secure Retirement & Social Security

After a lifetime of work, our seniors have earned security and peace of mind. We will always defend Social Security and Medicare from cuts and privatization, and protect the pensions and retirement savings families spent decades building.

Strong Rural & Farm Communities

DeKalb County's farms and small towns feed the nation and anchor our way of life. We support family farmers over corporate consolidation, rural broadband and health care access, and investment in the small towns and townships that make this county what it is.

Voting Rights & Fair Elections

Democracy starts with the ballot. We support making it easier — never harder — for every eligible citizen to register and vote. Fair maps, secure elections, and one person, one vote: that's the standard we hold every level of government to.
